I am no Project Management but I have found mapping out my tasks and assigning delivery dates very helpful.

  • Basically what I do I start with a pad of Yellow Stick Notes.
  • I then write each task on a yellow note.
  • Then I arrange the notes in the order that they are required to be completed.
  • After they are ordered I start assigning hour values to each task.
  • I then map each task to a GANT or PERT chart in viseo

and viola, I have a graphical representation of my Project Plan. In all things how much data you add to a chart is personal preference. The Viseo charts have room for start and end dates, and proposed start and end dates. It looks professional to send updated chart to your client, but its entirely a personal choice.
I also use the free version of Basecamp.
